A little history...

The Vegetable Oil and Detergent Company, the predecessor of Cereol Rt., was founded in 1964, with the integration of most Hungarian vegetable oil factories.

Plants: Rákospalota, Kőbánya, Csepel, Újpest, Győr, Nyírbátor and the Central Laboratory and Research Institute

Activity: producing vegetable oil-based groceries (edible oil, margarine, lard), protein feeds, soap, detergent, cleaning and other chemical products.

During its operations, the processing technology was developing continuously. It is also credited for building the modern and high-capacity Martfű plant in 1980.

The Hungarian oilseed production was growing dynamically with the support of the company, by the side of stimulating the production of the erucic acid free rape and oil flax as well.

In the 70-80's the vegetable oil industry was the most dynamically developing branch of the Hungarian food industry.

The company made several important upgrades and reconstructions. The most important ones were the investments to increase the quality of the fodder meals, to reduce power consumption and to increase seed storage capacity.

The recent past...

In 1991 the Company was transformed into a public limited company. On February 28, 1992, the Cereol Holding, one of the leaders in oil processing in Western Europe, purchased the majority of the shares. As Cereol Hungary Rt., the company became a member of the Eridania Béghin-Say Agricultural Group, which owned the most of the shares of a lot of Hungarian sugar factories at that time.

The activity of Cereol Hungary was concentrated on processing sunflower and rapeseed and producing and bottling edible oil.

Products included crude vegetable oils, bottled edible oils, fodder meals and edible lecithin.

After the privatization, the new owner made a significant technological development on the field of production and bottling. In 1993-94 a modern edible oil refinery and PET based 1-liter bottling factory was established in Martfű. With this step the plant became one of the most modern vegetable oil factories in Europe regarding production capacity and the quality of the products. This gave the company greater opportunities to serve the Hungarian and export markets on a high standard.
